About the Position: This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to
sign DA Form 5019-R, and/or DA Form 7412 "Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as
critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program," or a Memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Applicant must be National Register EMT/BLS certified and able to obtain Texas EMT/BLS certification within 12
months or less of employment.
Must have and maintain valid state driver's license.
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Firefighter I & II, Pumper/Aerial/Tanker.
Must complete training requirements described in OSHA standard for hazardous waste operations.
Shifts are 24 hours on/24 hours off; 72-hour weekly tour of duty.
** MAXIMUM age restriction of 37 years***

Major Duties:
Perform fire protection inspections, maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency and standby duties.
Inspect quarters, hospitals, etc., for fire hazards, overloaded fuses, trash and rubbish accumulation; combustible
material storage and impeded stairways and exits. Operate alarm room equipment to include 2-way radio, pumps,
valves, ladders, etc. Serve as Driver-Operator of motorized fire fighting equipment; perform maintenance task on fire
fighting equipment to ensure proper functioning of vehicle via routine check-ups. Perform non-professional and
standardized emergency medical/BLS procedures to include controlling hemorrhage, childbirth assistance; record
temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration rates; observe neurological signs. Perform basic containment
and/or confinement operations; select and use proper specialized chemical personal protective equipment using
basic hazard and risk assessment techniques.

Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS- 05 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04
level. Qualified candidates must show in their resume that they have one year of specialized experience which
provided the following: Experience in the standard operating procedures and established firefighting methods and
techniques to effectively control and extinguish various types of structural fires; operation of firefighting and special
safety equipment and related apparatus; ability to carry out instructions and maintain order in emergency situations
OR **EDUCATION/TRAINING: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or
university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study is qualifying for GS-5.** To
qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must posses one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level.
Qualified candidates must show in their resume that they have one year of specialized experience which provided
the following: Experience in reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards, performing housekeeping and stand by
duties, operating motorized firefighting equipment, performing preventive maintenance on firefighting equipment,
administers first aid, artificial respiration, emergency and non-emergency treatment for illnesses and injuries. To
qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must posses one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level.
Qualified candidates must show in their resume that they have one year of specialized experience which provided
the following: Experience in controlling or extinguishing fires, rescue operations, responding to alarms, performing
fire inspections involving low potential fire hazards, performing maintenance duties, operating fire communications
equipment, controlling hazardous materials incidents, providing basic life sustaining emergency and non- emergency
treatment for illnesses, injuries; the ability to coordinate with the physician or the charge nurse via radio.
The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's
basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this
vacancy announcement.

meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.

Personnel security investigation required.
Position is designated as Emergency Essential.
A medical examination is required.
Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
Maximum 37 years of age restriction.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for
Selective Service Registration.
Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
